Product Management module
Back
Summary
This module is where you will be able to setup your product line(s). The information maintained here will
be used to create catalogs, flyers, and price lists among other things. The management of actual qtys and
location of products will be performed by the Inventory Module
Features
- Support the creation and maintenance of profile information about products.
this information should include such items as:
- SKU, a unique way of identifying the product which might be an arbitrary number
or a concatenation of numbers from a series of tables/lists. These tables might
include such information as:
- Product Family, which is a simple list containing a char or number to
be used in the SKU and a name for the family
- Manufacturer, which is a simple list containing a char or number to be used
in the SKU and a name for the mfg.
- Manufacturer's Model# Reference, which is a list containing mfg model#'s and a
number which is generated per mfg to create a normalized # to be used in the SKU.
That is, the numbers are sequential per mfg.
- Color, another simple list containing a char or number to be used in the SKU and
a name of the color.
- Size, another simple list containing a char or number to be used in the SKU and a
name of the size.
At this time, as many as 5 categories of information can be combined into a SKU. Each category
has a form to create and maintain the data within it. This particular setup fits the needs of
my company and it's understandble that it does not match how everyone else builds their SKUs.
However, with little modification, one should be able to accommodate other existing systems as well.
- A brief description of the product which can be used to summarize the product in a
short amount of space, such as when listing all products or on an invoice.
- A detailed description of the product to fully describe all the details of the product.
- Ability to set a reference#, perhaps to another SKU which is somehow related, or a # which
this product replaces.
- UPC, Universal Product Code.
- Price(s), with the ability to set multiple prices and constraints on how they apply such as
a specific volume, or time frame, etc.
- Determine if this product will be inventoriable, for example a service wouldnt require inventory.
- Create reports based on the information maintained by the module.
- Price list
- Product spec sheets
- Product catalogs
