Liquid War 6 is a unique multiplayer wargame. Your army is a blob of liquid and you have to try and eat your opponents. Rules are very simple yet original, they have been invented by Thomas Colcombet. It is possible to play alone against the computer but the game is really designed to be played with friends, on a single computer, on a LAN, or on Internet.
See also Liquid War 6 on Savannah.
An older version: Liquid War 5, is available, but is not part of the GNU Project. Only Liquid War 6 is part of the GNU Project, it is a complete rewrite.
October 2009: release of 0.0.7beta. This long waited release introduces a dedicated rendering thread, the idea being to use modern and common multicore CPUs at their best capabilities. Game has also been ported to Mac OS X, even if no package is yet available. Among the new features of this release, it is now possible to scroll and zoom on maps, games do end at some point, and a deathmatch mode is available. There is still no network, but as far as solo/local mode is concerned, the game works. It is still a beta, but not a demo anymore. There are probably many bugs, but the current codebase needs testing and feedback, so it was released as is.
You can also view an MPEG demo (1.6 Mb).
Liquid War 6 can be found on http://download.savannah.gnu.org/releases/liquidwar6/.
Latest release is 0.0.7beta. You can download and compile the source code and get extra maps.
However, it is still in beta stage. Expect bugs and limitations.
A GNU Arch repository is also available, containing the latest developpement version.
