<h2>A GNU Head</h2>

<p><a href="/graphics/gnu-head-sm.jpg"><img src="/graphics/gnu-head-sm.jpg"
alt=" [Image of the head of a GNU] "
width="129" height="122" /></a></p>

<p>You may prefer to use <a href="/graphics/heckert_gnu.html">a bold
GNU Head</a>, which is the version now used by the Free Software
Foundation on any new GNU-emblem items, and stickers.</p>

<p>A handsome GNU Head with typical beard and smart-looking curled horns.
He or she appears to be smiling contentedly with its works as of yet,
but it still gazes off into the distance.</p>

<p>This Head of a GNU was the default art for pages on this web site
including <a href="/home.html">GNU's home page</a>.</p>

<p>It was also used on the front of the 1997 <a
href="/order/t-shirts.html">GNU
href="https://shop.fsf.org/collection/gnu-gear#Tshirts">GNU T-shirt</a>. It is also on the spine of
many <a href="/doc/doc.html">GNU href="https://shop.fsf.org/collection/books-docs">GNU Manuals</a>.</p>

<p>Dustin Jorge made a nice wallpaper inspired by this GNU head. He spent
some time researching copyright for a paper he had to do for a
class. In the meantime he made this desktop. It is available in the
following formats:</p>

<ul>
  <li>png
  <li>PNG <a href="/graphics/gnublue.png">503k</a></li> href="/graphics/gnublue.png">503kB</a></li>
</ul>

<p>Ville Solarius has come up with the following variations of the GNU Head
in the SVG format: </p>
<ul>
   <li>Plain <a href="/graphics/gnuhead_plain.svg">99.2k</a></li>
   <li>Inkscape <a href="/graphics/gnuhead_inkscape.svg">99.2k</a></li>

Passion. Our Potential." to the <a href="/graphics/gnupassion.svg.gz">GNU head</a>.</p>

<!-- Regarding copyright, in general, standalone pages (as opposed to
     files generated as part of manuals) on the GNU web server should
     be under CC BY-ND 3.0 US. 4.0. Please do NOT change or remove this
     without talking with the webmasters or licensing team first.
     Please make sure the copyright date is consistent with the
     document. For web pages, it is ok to list just the latest year the
     document was modified, or published.

     If you wish to list earlier years, that is ok too.
     Either "2001, 2002, 2003" or "2001-2003" are ok for specifying
     years, as long as each year in the range is in fact a copyrightable
     year, i.e., a year in which the document was published (including
     being publicly visible on the web or in a revision control system).

     There is more detail about copyright years in the GNU Maintainers
     Information document, www.gnu.org/prep/maintain. -->
