GNU Aetherspace

First an apology. This page is a quick FAQ until a more polished website can be put together. Much more is to come.

What is it?

GNU Aetherspace is a project to build an entirely free software MMO (Massively Multiplayer Online) game.

So, what's the genre?

The game aims to be a somewhat serious scifi focusing on issues of freedom vs control.

Is it playable?

It was. We were using the Soya 0.9 engine, which has since repeatedly broken their API, changed it's data file formats, and does not comply with GNU standards for free software.

We are currently focused on a rewrite based on the PySoy 3d game engine.

Where is it?

With it's 3d engine close to 1.0 release, Aetherspace is being dusted off for a complimentary release for Summer 2008. This is intended to be a fully networked version.

What's the license?

GNU Aetherspace is available under the GNU GPLv3 - this includes all the graphics, sound, and game data.
